NEWS - JUST IN TIME

THE RETURN OF JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

We haven't had any notice about Justin Timberlake until now, when he debuted his multi-platinum solo CD, "Justified". He has made new friends and he has done things like help Bill Gates unveil Microsoft and MTV's new joint digital music service and he's acting, lending his voice to the new Shrek 3 film.
He also stars in a film with Cameron Diaz, but he had to word harder if he wants to success of acting, too. Justin missed out on two film roles because he sounded like a 12 years old! He should take lessons from the manly George Clooney, said the article.

JAPAN - COMMENT

In Japan the Search and Rescue operations are continious; they are searching for people and saving them as fast as possible. And the nuclear reactors can be controlled because they have managed to stop the electricity blackout in this site (where reactors are situated) and the reactors temperature has been stablized to avoid more explosions. But in the last days there has been snowfall in Japan, so living conditions for the Japanese are really shoking. Imagine living in these conditions. Imagine you have lost your home, your family and all your possessions. You do not have food, clean water, clothes or even a toothbrush! How would you survive? Remember all the luxuries we have and that we take for granted. What would you miss the most? Remember last year when we had snow and for almost two days we had no electricity or water. We were all in panic because our mobiles and computers were not charged. No television! No heating! No light!

NEW - JAPAN

You cannot have missed the terrible events in Japan. On television, in the newspapers, and on the radio we hear and see about the earthquake and the following tsunami.
Earthquakes are the most common natural disaster in Japan. This country has continuous earthquake activity because of its position.
some weeks ago an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0 occurred in the Pacific Ocean, close to the Japanese coast. This earthquake initiated a tsunami that swept across coastal regions of Eastern Japan.
A tsunami is another natural disaster, it’s a tidal wave. When a tsunami gets nearer the coast it starts to slow down and grow in height. Tsunamis occurred in Japan because it’s surrounded by water and because Japan has a lot of earthquakes which causes tsunamis.

CONSEQUENCES
- At the moment we don’t know how many people have died, but the officials and newspapers say at the moment they know about 18000 deaths approximately with a lot of missed people.
- Streets are destroyed; buildings and houses are floating on the water and people are completely confused.
- There are three nuclear reactors which have exploded because of the blackout, the temperature of these nuclear reactors couldn’t be controlled and they get warm. So the radioactivity affects to some people who lives there and nearer Japan. Children are more vulnerable to radioactivity.
- Also some aliments as milk or water have got iodine 131
- The Earth’s rotation has changed, because of the tectonic plate’s movement.
- Japan has moved 4 cm to the East.

BECOME VEGETERIAN?

Nowadays, doctors, television and everyone tell us that we must have to eat more healthily; to eat more organic and eco friendly food. It’s a fantastic idea, but we have problems when we want to do it.

Firstly, these kind of food are so difficult to find, and you can only find it in speciality shops and farm shops. Often we do not have time to travel looking in different shops.

Secondly these foods are a lot more expensive because the fruits and vegetables are more difficult to grow without chemicals to protect them from insects. To have organic meat the animals must live in better (more expensive) conditions.

Supermarkets tell us that they keep a lot more natural, eco friendly products; but are they really healthier? For example, if you look at some healthy products you can see: 0% fat, but when you look at the other ingredients, you can see that they are 80% sugar, 15% colorants added, with a lot of preservatives, and a lot of more non-healthy additives.
Another example: when in a product there are written: “100% chicken”. 100% real chicken? And when we can find a not real chicken? With things like that makes you want to become vegetarian, but it’s too difficult.

PS: I LOVE YOU

This film is about a love story between a couple where the husband has died a few days ago, so she is very devastated. All the story is narrated by some letters written by him. But these letters are given to Holly, the woman in the story, gradually as the days pass.

Each note is signed "PS, I love you". These letters were prepared by Gerry before his death. Sometimes these notes are attached to a present, or a voice record. All this makes Holly feel as if her husband is not dead and therefore a little more happy. There was a day when she didn't recieve any more letters, so it was when she realised that she was alone and that she wouldn't see Gerry anymore. She met another man, but she couldn't forget Gerry. Some time ago, this man will marry her.

One day, she recieved the last letter, in the run of time, that says her that he hopes she will be very happy, and that if only she find another person who makes her feel to be loved.

HOME

This video reveals the evidence of all the effects of contamination produced by new technologies. As the video shows, we have no more than 10 years to change our behavior. I think we have to start from nothing in the area of technology, and to discover other ways to live, without contaminate and destroying our home, the planet. Nowadays our lives depend on new technologies, but we do not think that also many of these technologies are depending on another thing: nature. So it means that if we do not take care of it, if we do not limit it, technology destroy nature, our planet and therefore us. When we are polluting our environment we are killing ourselves.

Humans are so blind because at least fifty years to people became aware about the dangers of contamination and pollution, but have done nothing.
I think it's too late to turn back because we can't live without technology and therefore pollution, but we must be more actively conscious that in this way we are killing our planet our use of. We must improve in our use of natural, reusable energies (for example wind and water power) and to leave a side these type of energy that is not reusable.

Dear Mr. John Ritch,

I am a student from IES Castelló d’Empúries and I live in this village too. I am almost 18 years old and I want to give you my opinion and some ideas I have about Nuclear Power Plants.

First of all, I am completely agreed with you about the idea to check the nuclear power stations to prevent possible future accidents. But anyway I think you must shut down all nuclear power stations.

Although I can think that this thinking way is hypocrisy because this type of energy amasses wealth because everyone of are consuming continually from nuclear power. So if we do not find another way to generate energy, we do not shut down nuclear power stations and if we do not finish with nuclear power, shortly we will pay for it.

I think it is impossible to shut down nuclear stations while there were people who are enriching by them and while every day there were people who are living by energy from them.

Yours sincerely,

Stefi Giménez
